About The Work

Steve Hamilton creates video, film and photography organized into sculptural contexts primarily constructed from found and recycled objects.  He catalogs quotidian experience in work spanning decades of collections that include everything from the artist’s own finger nails and belly button lint, to anonymous lost gloves and hundreds of rusty razor blades deposited behind the medicine cabinet in his apartment by an unknown previous tenant.   These excavations and recontextualizations reframe time and materials to create a personal history and iconography that renders a link between past, present, and future for artist and viewer alike.  The site explores current work and in the archives a history of Hamilton’s sound pieces, single channel videos, short diary films, and multi-channel videos as the work evolved towards the sculpturally contextualized videos of today.
